Aquila is a 53’ D’Unienville vessel, designed and built in Mauritius, powered by 2x Yanmar 370hp engines. The vessel is outfitted with 3 cabins as well as a private bathroom. With the fuel capacity of 5000 liters, Aquila is able to sustain offshore trips that last for several consecutive days. The vessel has a radio and a satellite phone, autopilot mode as well as an EPIRB (distress-emmiting beacon) and is outfitted with life jackets and life rafts on board.
For fishing, the Aquila team uses Tiagra rods, matched with 7 Shimano Tiagra Reels (2x 130lbs, 3x 80lbs, 2x50lbs). There’s a variety of big game lures made available to the guests, all used for targeting Billfish, Wahoo, Mahi, Tuna and other deep sea fish.
The Aquila team started out in the big game fishing business all the way back in 1970. To this date they’ve changed 6 boats, with Aquila being the company’s last upgrade. The family enterprise came about from the shared passion for fishing between a father and son. For over 60 years, the family has been on the water almost every day, fishing the Mauritian coast aboard different boats they owned and operated throughout the decades. As such, they have gained intimate knowledge of the variety of bottom structures of the ocean, the tides and the currents, and are very familiar with the intricacies of Mauritian fishing seasons.
Aquila’s Skipper, Berty, has over 30 years of fishing experience in the waters of Mauritius, which he uses to guide his guests to his favorite sweet spots for their targeted species. His Mate, Eddy, who comes from a local fishing village, is also a deep sea veteran.
