My husband and I enjoyed a great day out with Captain Dave. He is friendly, helpful, and has a lifetime of fishing knowledge to lean on. Dave has a spacious boat with all the lures, reels, and fishing accessories you need for a successful day on the water. Cpt. Dave provides snacks and water on the boat; if you want something more hardy or some beers to cheer your big catch, bring it along with you; sunscreen and a hat wouldn’t go amiss either.

Finding the harbor was easy, and there was ample safe parking. There are restrooms at the harbor (bring a headlamp or flashlight; it sure is dark in there before sunrise).

10/10 I would recommend Au’ Struck to anyone looking for a great charter on the Big Island. Dave’s wife runs an Airbnb if you are looking for a lovely place to stay.

Captain was a very nice and knowledgeable guy. Had a short safety brief prior to departure. Quickly got out on the water and lines out chasing the fish. The captain was great about trying to get us on the fish and after quite a bit of anticipation there was no shortage of action. Hooked up an Ahi tuna and was able to fight him into the boat. Captain Dave was great and got lines back out to get on the fish. My wife hooked up a short bill spearfish and once again captain Dave wasted no time getting the boat squared away after the fight to get us back on the action. All around a great experience and memories to last a lifetime!

He’s the best charter captain on the island!

The day with captain Dave was fantastic. We arrived at the boat and were out on the water and fishing within a few minutes. The capt answered all our questions, explained what we were going to do and how to do it and gave us some good ideas for our trip to Kona.  After a few missed hits early on, Dave got us on the fish, and we landed a 250lb blue marlin. Reeling it in we went over our 6 hour time but Dave kept going and looking for more fish as we headed back to dock. We got plenty of pictures and loved the whole day. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a boat that will get you on the fish!!

Visiting from the mainland we read many reviews before choosing Captain Dave. We were not disappointed. Our 6 hour private excursion kept us within sight of the island and we managed to catch one short-nosed spearfish. We also saw some dolphins! Captain Dave was professional, explained everything we needed to know and what to do. He was personable, friendly and genuine. Would highly recommend!

Captain Dave did everything he could to get us a fish on our 6 hour charters. Due to no fault of his, luck was not on our side and we unfortunately didn’t catch anything. It was the first charter for my two sons and I, so it was disappointing. He was very friendly and made us feel at home on the boat. The boat was comfortable and clean. The weather was perfect and we got some great views of the island from the water. We did see a pod of dolphins when coming back into the marina. I wish we would have had an extra day on the island because I would definitely like to try our luck for another round. I would recommend this charter.
