With the full moon, snapper was our intended target. We met up at 930 am to load the boat. After loading the boat with gear, we headed to Matlacha to pick up 400 lbs of ice for the fish box.
We then made our way to punta rassa boat ramp. After a 1/2 dozen quick stops looking for different varieties of bait, we headed SW in search of some fishy grounds.
We marked some good shows in 175 ft and decided this would be our spot for the night. With wind and tide kind of off, it took 3 drops of the anchor before we were set up just right.
We had a steady bight of Mutton Snapper, Yellowtail, mangrove, porgy and lesser amberjack thru the night. We also picked up a solid blackfin tuna on the flatline.
Come morning, the Greater Amberjack came out to play, and we couldn't get anything but squid past them. After wrestling with a 1/2 dozen of them and having to release them as they are closed for the remainder of the year (Thanks, Feds!), we decided to go ahead and make the ride home.
We made a few quick drops on the way back home, stopping on a private wreck.... of course the AJs were happy to come out and play.
With no sleep for over 24 hours and sore arms, we called it a day and continued our run back to Punta Rassa.
