Пятнистый басс-павлин Рыбалка – Майами
(Cichla)
Most people go to Miami for the promise of great times on the beach and awesome parties, but avid anglers come here for a completely different reason. The Peacock Bass fishing Miami hides is some of the best you can find in the state and fishermen flock to the local canals to test out their skills.
Butterfly Peacock Bass was introduced to the Miami fishery only a couple of decades ago, hailing from rivers of the Amazon. Today, it’s one of South Florida's most popular freshwater catches, thanks to its fighting abilities and tastiness.
When to Go
Butterfly Peacock Bass love warm waters, and the temperate climate of South Florida allows for these fish to be active throughout the year. You can go after these gorgeous fish any season and have a great time on the water, but local guides suggest that going out anytime from March until the end of May will be most productive. Because the Peacock hunts during the day, when there’s plenty of light, you don’t have to hit the water super early.
Going out with a local guide will increase your chances of staying on the constant bite, whether you fish from the shore or from a boat. Charter captains in the area have spent years going after these hard-fighting fish and are connoisseurs of their behavior. You can find a four-hour excursion in the $300 range, and that covers a full group of people. Longer trips (six and eight hours) cost around $500–$550 and will allow you to go after a variety of popular species like Largemouth Bass, Tarpon, and Snook.
Where to Go
The Tamiami Canal System is one of the best spots in Miami to chase the Peacock Bass. Snapper Creek and the Tamiami canals are teeming with Bass, and there’s over 40 miles of water to explore. You’ll find your prey around rocks and bridge pilings, as well as any other underwater construction.
Fish flats where the water is clear or smaller lateral canals when the current on the main ones is too strong. If you’ve got any suspicion about the productivity of these fisheries, remember that the biggest Peacock Bass in Florida (a 10-pounder) came from the Tamiami canals.
What to Expect
Miami is known for its prolific fishery, both on the inshore and offshore front. Peacock Bass is one of the species that has only recently started gaining popularity in these parts. It’s not hard to understand why – these fish are agile, a challenge to reel in, and make for good table fare as well as a rewarding catch.
Golden shiners are irresistible to the Peacock, and the setup is quite simple – run a size 1 fishing hook straight through the shiner’s nose and let it swim freely. It won’t be long before you get the attention of a Peacock Bass. If artificial lures are more your thing, then you use minnow imitating plugs. Fly fishermen also have great success in the canal waters with more neutral fly presentations.
The daily limit for Peacock Bass is two fish per person, and one of the keepers can be longer than 17 inches. The average length of the fish is usually around 14 inches, and the weight can vary from 2–5 pounds or more during the spawning season. Sometimes they can reach as much as 8 or 9 pounds, which is in the record-winning domain.
How to Prepare
The most important thing you’ll need on your fishing expedition is a freshwater fishing license. To enjoy the Peacock Bass fishing Miami has to the fullest, you don’t have to be an experienced angler. In fact, fishing for these beauties is a great family outing. Pack for your favorite snacks and drinks, some sunscreen, and you’re ready for another fishing adventure.
