Flounder might not be the best-looking species in Mobile Bay, but it certainly is one of the tastiest! Its light, delicate flavor makes it a must-hook when it comes to stocking your cooler with tasty table fare. Even better? The Flounder fishing Mobile Bay has to offer is available year round, which means that local charter captains have really finessed their Flatfish-finding skills.
What can I expect?
With plenty of small shallow bays and muddy flats, Mobile Bay is home to some of the Flounder’s favorite living conditions. This fish has a particular love for sandy bottoms and murky waters, where it can camouflage itself from predators. This adds extra excitement when it comes to hooking this species, as you’ll have to keep an eye out for any secret hiding spots!
For new anglers and families traveling with little ones, Flounder fishing offers a hard-to-beat combination: little-to-no travel time, and plenty of fun that isn’t too taxing. Head to the tourist-friendly departure points of Dauphin Island, Fort Morgan, and Gulf Shores, and you’ll find charters run by local captains eager to show out-of-towners the ropes.
If you’re a more experienced angler, you can travel further out to the reefs located at the center of Mobile Bay, where Flounder like to gather in droves. This will give you the chance to try out a wider variety of techniques, with the most popular being light tackle fishing and bottom fishing. For a real Alabaman Flounder fishing experience, avoid the barrier islands and head north and east of the bay to Mobile, Daphne, or Theodore. These less-populated locations are real southern gems, and offer up some authentic angling action.
How to prepare
You’ll be hooked up with all the equipment needed for a productive day on the water, including rods, reels, bait or lures, and tackle. Your fishing license will also be covered for you. Just bring along your favorite snacks and drinks, as well as weather-appropriate clothing. Reel Fishin' Charters – Gulf Shores
You have to go there charter about these guys and you’ll love it. You’ll catch a lot of fish caught about 40 fish total five of us, for that is a very good amount. Cannot complain during four hours fishing five stars and above.
