What fish can I catch off Mooloolaba?

On a regular day, or night for that matter - night time fishing is super popular here and rewarding - you can reach the limits soon after you venture 15 kilometres from the coast and into the Coral Sea. Snapper, Pearl Perch, and Amberjacks are winter time top choice. Amberjack put up muscle-popping chase, while Snapper make for a nice meal.

If you want to explore the seafloor, you should sink your bait near the edge of wrecks and reefs offshore. You can get Red Emperor, Coral Trout, Parrotfish, Snapper. The offshore season in Mooloolaba stretches throughout the year, it just depends on what you want to get. Summer time is reserved for game fish such as Mahi Mahi that frequent the reefs. Mackerel are ever popular round here and you can get them near the offshore reefs during summer months.

There are many fisheries you’ll want to try out here to get the most of your fishing expedition. The problem is that they fish well for a variety of fish, so it’s your call where you want to head. Before you do, you should also consult the website of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries to see the size, limits, and seasons.

Barwon Banks are a good choice if you want to drop the bait and get Snapper, Coral Trout, Emperor, and other demersal fish.
You don’t want to miss the Hards 1 and Hards 2. They are some 60 kilometers off the coastline and will reward with Pearl Pearch, massive Amberjack, and Red Emperor. And, to top that - the Hards also produce Marlin, Wahoo, and Mahi.

Add Chardons Reef to your list. It fishes nicely for Coral Trout, Sweetlip, as well as Parrotfish, Snapper, and Emperor.
