As we get into our spring time fishing patterns, we continue catching plenty of trout, quality redfish, and snook more often as a the water warms up. Some kingfish, Spanish mackerel, and Bonita have been near shore, but that has been limited due to the heavy winds we’ve had this spring. A few have started to show up, but we haven’t spent the time to fish for them yet. The peak of their migration is just a few weeks away.

The water temperature is starting to warm bringing mackerel, kingfish and cobia to out area and causing the redfish and snook to be more willing to eat.

March has been fantastic on the nearshore reefs and wrecks. We have had consistent action with grunt, black sea bassand mangrove snapper, with the occasional cobia ,gag and red grouper. The best bait seems to be live shrimp and frozen cut threadfin. Go lighter on the leader about 30 pound should get it done. We are using 2 ot circle hooks and they are working well. Try to get out in between the wind and you should do well.

This winter, the weather has not been our friend. We have been forced to cancel too many of our fishing trips because of cold temperatures, windy conditions or rough seas. But, some clients have opted to enjoy an afternoon or sunset cruise. Sure, we would all like to be offshore fishing, but when it isnt safe, getting out in the water is still better than going to the movies. As you can see from the photos, these folks are enjoying a leisurely trip down the ICW and a short run out into the Gulf to watch the sun dip into the sea. An afternoon cruise works well, too. If you have friends or relatives coming to town, a two-hour cruise is a nice way to spend the afternoon together. Give us a call and we can get you out on the water.
