Hot fishing with kids on a cool March mo
We were scheduled to go fishing with a party of six on Monday the 12th, but the weather just wasn’t cooperating. Fortunately, this family from West Texas had some flexibility and were able to reschedule for the next day.
Another welcome bit of news was that Woody’s Sports Center and Fisherman’s Wharf, both located in Port Aransas, are now functional enough that we are once again able to pick up and drop off at these facilities. In addition, they also have their bait and fish cleaning facilities up and running. There’s still much more cleanup and rebuilding to be done, but this is just one more sign that the Texas Gulf Coast will not let Hurricane Harvey defeat us!
Tuesday saw much less wind and the seas were much more cooperative. Having just installed a new Garmin chart plotter, it took us a little while to find the right spot, but find it we did. The smaller snapper are beginning to increase in numbers, so we had a lot of bait stolen and had to throw back several small ones. However, the Bull Reds and Sow Snapper were still around. We had two young sons aboard and dad helped the younger one reel in the biggest redfish of the day. The older assisted in reeling in the largest snapper, a nice 33” beauty. All total, we caught 3 Bull Reds and 9 Red Snapper. Gross weight of fish brought back to be turned into fillets was 120 pounds. Not bad for a half day on the water.
