Snappers were the only things hungry
Left the dock at 7:15 in the morning for a half day of trolling and reef fishing.
We started at the platforms 6 miles out of the jetties, but found no takers. We then moved out over some sunken barges and again, could not draw a strike. Moving to the Mustang Island reef, we trolled all over it, only drawing a couple of short strikes.
We decided to try bottom fishing on the reef to see if things might improve, and they did. We started catching snapper right away, and although the majority were undersized, our fishermen were able to put six keepers in the box. We had a shark on for a while, but he tangled another line and I broke it off trying to get it cleared.
Lots of bottled nose dolphin kept hanging around the area, which obviously didn’t help us out much. Didn’t see any ling and never did catch a Kingfish, but that’s fishing for you.
