Greetings!
The drum are in the South Florida Glades! Over the past few weeks, we've netted and average of 20+ Redfish and just about half of that amount of Black drum on each charter! Needless to say this year's winter drum bite will be epic!
On a recent trip, my two new friends from Miami (local friends), boated 30+ Redfish, 10+ Snook, a handful of Black drum and a few Speckled trout! Our rods were double over ALL day, but the highlights included the two Bull Reds (photo attached).
All of our fish were caught on what's turning into my "go-to" rig in the glades! A cajun thunder rig.. We rig a Cajun Thunder popping cork, with 1.5 ft of fluorocarbon leader, tied to a 1/4 jig. Our baits vary by day but typically a penny color GULP shrimp has proven to be an effective bait. I cannot think of a better Drum rig! However don't underestimate this rig for Snook as well, just ask my Arkansas friends how they picked up their slot Snook (photo attached) and they'll share the same!
All in all the drum bite is VERY good right, but based on the number of juvenile fish being caught, it will only get better.
