We don't catch these often, but when we do, I simply must write about them. On today's trip we caught one of the most elusive billfish out there, the swordfish. These are one of the strongest, most sought after, coolest and badass fish in the ocean. For these fish, we kind of have to go all out, hero or zero fishing for them. Well, we had the right conditions and the customers understood that we very well may get completely skunked, but then again, we could catch the fish of a lifetime. So we got out the big tackle and ran really far offshore. We put out the swordfish baits and wouldn't you know it, within seconds of the bait hitting the bottom, we were hooked up. The fish fought hard for it's size. It wasn't a monster swordfish, they do get much bigger. But even a medium sized one will still put up an epic fight. When the fish came up, we gaffed him and got him into the boat and took our celebratory photos. Gotta love catching these guys. Any day you catch a swordfish is an awesome trip. If you're looking to catch one of these great fish, this is one of the best months to go after them. Good luck to everyone fishing this month. See ya out there on the rip!

Shark Fishing is Hot in Fort Lauderdale
Shark Fishing is Hot in Fort Lauderdale
Февраль 17, 2017
Caught a very rare mako shark out of Fort Lauderdale on our shark fishing charter. Mako sharks are not common to Fort Lauderdale, but we do catch them here this time of year. Today, we went out and hooked into about 140 pound mako shark. Mako sharks are cool because they are one of the only sharks that jump out of the water and of all the fish in the sea, mako sharks make the coolest, highest and most awesome jumps. Spinner sharks are the only other shark that I know that actually jumps out of the water. This mako did some awesome leaps, jumping nearly 25 feet in the air in an awesome aerial display. When the mako did his first jump, I thought it was a sailfish on the line. But then I saw how fat the fish was and knew it couldn't be a sailfish. Sure enough, when the fish got close enough to the boat to visually identify, it was a mako shark. February through May is the best time of year to come shark fishing in Fort Lauderdale. We catch hammerhead sharks, makos, thresher sharks, black tip sharks, nurse sharks, tiger sharks and more. There are thousands of shark species in the ocean and many of them are caught in our waters. Feb-May, we have an epic shark migration right down our coastline. Literally hundreds of thousands of sharks swim northwards along our coastline this time of year as they move back north with the returning warmer waters. That migration takes them right along our coast, just a mile and a half offshore. We know exactly where to find them and we go right to that depth and set our baits. Some of the largest game sharks of the year will be caught over the next couple months. If you're looking to hook into and catch one of the coolest, most sought after game fish in the sea, this is the month you want to come fishing. Tight lines and I'll sea ya on the water! Capt.
