Trout, Black Drum and Reds
The cold front last week, along with a drop in tides, had me fishing in slightly deeper water and in holes adjacent to shallow bars, spoil islands and skinny flats. The black drum bite has been very good working these areas in 3-4 ft of water, especially on high wind days. The redfish have also taken refuge in the same locales. For both of these fish, don’t overlook extremely dirty, blown out water. Black drum, as well as redfish, will feed aggressively in stained water. I have not fished much for trout lately, but the bite is improving and I have seen a number of quality trout caught in the last week. Popping cork / shrimp has been best for the drum and reds. Top waters and soft plastics for trout.
