Fishing is finally heating up again offshore of St. Pete. We have seen the return of the False Albacore and Amberjacks fairly close to the beach. We have been catching them on light tackle over wrecks on live pilchards and jigs. The bottom bite has also picked up, with lots of large Key West Grunts coming up, along with Red Grouper and a variety of other fun species. Heavy live chumming has been the key to success to draw in the pelagic fish. Inshore, Captain Doug Deming has been finding fair numbers of Snook and Redfish with a few Trout mixed in. The Tarpon are starting to show up in good numbers on the beaches and passes. Some of the best fishing of the year is beginning in the Tampa Bay area!
