Had a fantastic time with Dan! We met up around 0650 at the jetty on his new boat (very nice, well kept, and clean!) and started out not long after. Partner and Dan had great conversation (I’m rather introverted and shy, so very quiet) as we looked for some bait on the way out. He obviously knee where to go and had them marked on his map. We made a few stops to fish but not much was biting. We got a small sea bass and shark, and almost got a big one before it stole the bait. We made a second stop 17 miles off shore.
My stomach went downhill once we stopped. Dan was fantastic about it, was concerned and very accommodating. When I needed to head back in, we took off and he offered some options for us - we tried trolling for a few minutes and my stomach very much disagreed with the attempt. He suggested we head back, get me on land for 10 minutes and see if I could recover enough to try fishing in the bay.
Even with the stomach, we saw a sea turtle and dolphin on the way in! Dan slowed down and pointed them out and we waited a bit to see if they’d come back.
Unfortunately, my stomach didn’t settle after 30 minutes of laying on solid land. Dan was a great sport about it and didn’t rush us. In the end, we all agreed that if 30 minutes wasn’t enough for my stomach, I probably wouldn’t be able to handle even the bay at that point.
Despite the fact that my stomach stopped us very short of our booked time, Dan insisted on only accepting payment for the time we were out and refused to take the full booking price. We offered multiple times to pay the full day cost (it wasn’t his fault my stomach disagreed with the waves), but he staunchly refused.
All in all, we had a great time and I really wish I had remembered the Dramamine. Dan is clearly knowledgeable and is very nice to chat with (and he got a new boat a month or so ago)- I would like to book a trip with him again next time we’re out!
