It comes as no surprise that deep sea fishing in Key West offers some of the most exciting angling in the world. This small town is the southernmost point of the continental US, and is home to tropical weather, rich waters, and stunning views. It’s where the Gulf of Mexico meets the Atlantic Ocean, and with such easy access to these deep waters, Key West is a truly unique fishing destination.
The blue waters are at your fingertips if you’re heading out of Key West. The beautiful Florida Reef extends six miles south of the island, beyond which the ocean floor drops and the fun begins! Just some of the species you can catch here include Marlin, Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, and Tuna.
Depending on the type of adventure you’d like to have, there’s a variety of trips you can choose from. For an introduction to deep sea fishing, you can book a half day trip. If you’re looking to venture further out and go after the really big fish, a full day might be better suited for you. You can also find charters that will take you on an extended full day trip for the ultimate challenge.
Key West is a fishing town first and foremost, meaning you’ll have no issues finding a great charter to take you out on the water. Just head over to the Key West Bight or the Garrison Bight Marina and take your pick!

If it's your first time, look for shorter trips on calmer waters. Then you can work your way up towards 4 hour and 8 hour trips! They are all out there and available!

Key West Charter Fishing – Shallows
These were great for anglers with little to moderate experience with Gulf fishing, and they’d be good for people with more experience. We caught a wide variety of fish and had fun. The 2 captains were a cool twist as both were very knowledgeable and very helpful. I would highly recommend these guys.

Fishing for some of the other species that we would have liked to catch like Mahi, Sailfish, and Marlin would probably be better in other months. If you are looking to fish for specific species and have the flexibility to schedule your trip and any month, I would recommend just talking with Captain Maryann. She sincerely wants her clients to have great experience, is very easy to talk to and seems very kind and honest!

We weee here for a quick weekend with friends, so not really the better time of year for tarpon. Would probably try later in June or July if tarpon are what you’re looking for.
